Hertfordian Magazine

The Richard Hale Association have published the latest edition of The Hertfordian, the annual magazine for former pupils and supporters of Richard Hale School.

This year, the 70-page colour magazine includes news from former pupils throughout the world from every decade since the 1930s, articles from Old Hertfordians who have been working at the heart of government, in the vineyards of Bordeaux, in the Green Zone of Baghdad, or as DJs in Japan.

Also featured are details of school heritage projects, reports on the school’s new automotive facility and a recollection of Nick Hudson’s 34 years as a Geography teacher at Richard Hale.

The publication is supported by a number of local businesses, including Sworders, Chateau de Sours, Mimram Construction, Moffatt Saunders, McMullens and ACreative Media.

Richard Hale School has been educating the boys of Hertford since 1617 an now has a small intake of sixth-from girls.

The Richard Hale Association is the society of former pupils of the School. It exists to support the School, preserve the School’s heritage and allow former pupils to retain contact with each other and the School.

Woman Sentenced For Violent Attack

A Hertford woman has been sentenced after being found guilty of a violent attack on a train.

Samantha Vander, of Primrose Drive, repeatedly stamped on a man's head in her stilletoes, whilst two male accomplices kicked and punched the victim.

The attack took place in April on a train from Liverpool Stret to Hertford East, after Vander and her friends had been thrown out of a pub in London.

The 38 year-old victim had asked the drunken group to be quiet because they were swearing loudly and behaving in a disorderly fashion.

The attack ended only when fellow passengers intervened.

CCTV images recorded the attack and what appeared to be celebrations as the attackers high fived each other in the moments following.

Samantha Vander, together with Frederick Doe and Michael Tebbut, were each sentenced to four months imprisonment, suspended for 12 months. Each must also perform 300 hours of community service,  serve a 12 month probation order and observe a 4 month curfew between 8pm and 7am.
