2012 Calendar Competition

Hertford Town Council have launched their 2012 Calendar Competition.

The council’s Town and Tourist Information Centre is running the competition, which is in its third year.

The closing date of the competition is 31st July 2011, after which 13 photographs will be selected for inclusion – one for each month, and one for the cover of the calendar.

The Mayor of Hertford, Cllr Sally Newton, will be one of the competition judges, and commented: "Hertford has a rich source of scenes for photographers to choose from - interesting and historic buildings, beautiful rivers and open spaces, and a wide range of events.  I hope photographers of every age and ability will take the opportunity to explore and photograph our town, and help to ensure the 2012 calendar represents the best of Hertford.  Many people buy the calendar to send to friends and family at Christmas, so this is also a chance to promote our town as a tourist destination in the year of the London Olympics."

Photographs must be submitted with an entry form, which can be obtained from Hertford Town and Tourist Information Centre by the Shire Hall, or from www.hertford.gov.uk

There will be opportunities for local businesses to advertise on the pages of the calendar, and the Town & Tourist Information Centre can provide further details.

Other plastic packaging such as shrink wrap, food coverings, bags and tubs are also included.

Washed plastics should be placed in residents' blue bins together with metal cans.

Excluded from the scheme are hard plastics such as DVD cases, CD cases, and electronic product casings, toothbrushes, sunglasses or five gallon water bottles. As a general rule if you can snap the plastic and it shatters it's hard plastic and cannot be accepted.

Fun Day Enjoyed By All

Hertford Fun Day was once again a great success, and although there was a shower towards the end of the afternoon, rain didn’t stop play!  Approximately 3,500 people attended across the course of the afternoon.

Children hugely enjoyed the Water Walkers and bouncing on the bungees, whilst RJ Ride Guides Mountain Bike Stunt Show entertained young and old.  Many local voluntary groups had stalls on the Castle lawn, raising money for their organisations.

For those who wanted quieter form of entertainment, there was a small collection of classic cars outside Hertford Theatre, model railway displays in the Mill Bridge Rooms, and the Vintage Bus tours and rides were as popular as ever.  There was also a bright collection of narrowboats alongside Folly Island.

Councillor Jane Sartin said: "The day had a really good atmosphere, and it was great to see so many people enjoying the event.  Even the rain didn't spoil everyone's fun."
