Rat Run Petition Submitted
A petition in support of the enforcement of access only restrictions in Lower Bengeo has been presented to the local Highways Panel .

The petition was presented by Colin Underwood, who told a meeting of the panel that existing restrictions were not being enforced. He urged the panel to investigate enforcement using new technology and Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras.
Whilst supportive of residents in the area, Cllr.Sally Newton told the meeting that the effect of the opening of the Sainsburys’ store on traffic in the area would need to be taken into account. She said local authorities could not proceed outside of the agreed process in the Urban Transport Plan because Sainsbury’s might request back monies it had paid under a Section 106 agreement if the due process was not followed. However, Sainsbury's countered that it was up to local councils to decide how the money was spent.
Members received the Petition and asked Officers to report back to a future meeting on a way forward.
