Anti-Social Cyclists Warned
POLICE and schools are working together in Hertford town to combat young people who are riding their bikes without consideration for others. There have been numerous complaints in recent weeks about young people riding their bikes on pavements in a dangerous manner causing alarm and distress to pedestrians. PC Helen Grout from Hertford Community Safety Unit said: “Riding bikes in a dangerous manner on pavements is an offence and we are working with local schools to identify offenders whilst patrolling the area and by using CCTV. “We would ask that young people who are riding their bikes to school and outside of school are considerate to others around them. Those who are riding their bikes without consideration for others will be dealt with accordingly.”

Not Fit For Purpose
A parent and child parking space in Bircherley Green has been identified as one of the top ten worst parking spaces in Britain.

The list has been published by insurance company Aviva to highlight the cost of vehicle damage due to badly designed spaces.
The tiny parking space is boxed in between barriers and a pillar and is constantly empty due to that fact that there is no room to open car doors, let alone unload a push-chair.

Low Energy Bulb Disposal
The County Council have issued advice to consumers on how to dispose of low energy bulbs.
The sale of all traditional light bulbs will be phased out within the next three years and, as of this month, traditional 100 watt light bulbs will no longer be produced and sold in the UK.
They will need to be replaced with low energy light bulbs, in an effort to reduce energy consumption, carbon production, and save the average household as much as £37 per year.
Cllr Derrick Ashley, Executive Member responsible for Waste, said: "Low energy light bulbs are better for the environment than traditional bulbs, using around 80% less electricity, and emitting less CO2.
"These bulbs can also last up to ten times longer than 100 watt bulbs and therefore will need to replaced far less frequently, reducing waste. However, unlike traditional bulbs, low energy light bulbs contain small amounts of mercury. They should not be placed in your dustbin, as they could end up in landfill sites. Instead, they can actually be recycled from any household waste recycling centre (HWRC) in Hertfordshire, along with other fluorescent lighting tubes."
From the HWRC, the bulbs will be delivered to a reprocessing plant, where the glass and metal components will be separated and recycled into new items, and the hazardous mercury is recovered.
Waste recycling sites accepting low energy bulbs include Watton Road in Ware, Cole Green on the A414 and Pindar Road, Hoddesdon.

Bully Hedley Banned
Sele Councillor John Hedley has been banned for a month by East Herts Council after a series of complaints about his behaviour.
The council's Standards Committee met on Wednesday to discuss allegations that he had bullied and intimidated fellow councillors and officers.
Cllr. Hedley strenuously denied the allegations, despite having already been banned by the Conservative party for his conduct.
Finding the allegations proven, the Standards Committee banned him for a month. He was also ordered to write an apology to the complainants. The committee had originally wanted a six month ban but this was reduced to a month after hearing of the Tory ban.
This is not the first time that Cllr.Hedley has been at the centre of bullying allegations. He was barred from Hertford Town Council for three months last year following claims he had abused colleagues at The Castle.
