In my day we'd have simply opened up the hole and backfilled it wih those european community procurement bureaucrats and others you mention who popped out of our risk and community impact assessments. Sounds a very positive idea. Something I asked about when I lived in Bengeo, only to be told by the council that with the speed of traffic it wouldn't be safe. Now you can look at that in two ways...

I've used Event Tyres recently. Not based in Hertford, but a mobile service. They turn up when they say and fit the tyres at your house. No waiting around in tyre and exhaust places, or being told your tracking / brakes / shocks / exhaust need doing. I found them to be competitive price wise too but...

I'll second that. When I was young (and before I became a gas guzzling Toad) we all walked to our local school. Obviously that put the estate agents off their "SG13 catchment" stroke..
