Extending Oyster To Hertford East

At the end of the story, reference that London Rail in talks about extending london overground taking over the stations all the way to Hertford East.
Maybe finally we could potentially get oyster support.

New cabling has recently been installed which suggests that barriers are about to be put in.

At the time, there was a debate about how far TfL should go. Our argument is that these are London commuters and why would we not do that?
With that logic they could take over the Hertford loop of the Great Northern line too. Little chance of that I expect, though.

asked about Oyster coming to Hertford East at the ticket office this morning. It is coming in September. there will be posters soon.

It is actually a Franchise Commitment for Great Northern to extend Oyster to Hertford North (and other places) by 30th September. You can check it out for yourself at:

Extension of Zonal Fares
11.2 The Franchise shall use reasonable endeavours to extend Oyster PAYG to those
areas bounded by and including the Stations located at Epsom, Gatwick Airport,
Luton Airport Parkway, Welwyn Garden City and Hertford North by 30 September
2015 provided that the Franchisee and the Secretary of State agree that the terms
of such introduction are not detrimental to the overall commercial position of the
Franchise.
hmm... the language there makes it look like a pretty weak commitment. Plus you'd have thought that it would be one of the things that they were trumpeting with fanfare on their own website if they had any intention of doing it.
Still, we can but hope.

I asked GNRail, and (typically) they said it's down to TFL.
They said it'll be after the september "review".
