isn't the development being planned in between welwyn and hertford green belt? And that one is huge.

I'm not sure that green belt counts for much any more. Sure there'll be protests, but at the end of the day the houses are needed somewhere.

I'm not sure which "huge" development between Welwyn and Hertford you're talking about. Do you mean HERT3 to the North of Welwyn Road and west of Thieves Lane? This land was removed from the green belt in the latest District Plan and is earmarked for 550 homes in total. It is no longer Green Belt land. The area to the north of Welwyn Road especially is has not been very green over the last couple of decades, especially after the illegal gravel extraction.

The Green Belt is protected in both the District Plan and the National Planning Policy Framework. The boundaries rarely change, except when policies are periodically reviewed and require approval from The Planning Inspectorate.

Ah, Birchall Garden Suburb - 2550 homes south east of WGC (link: http://www.tarmac.com/birchall-garden-suburb). Not exactly between Hertford and WGC to my mind, but that's probably by-the-by. A brief read of the new District Plan suggests the land is not Green Belt.
