The Mayor

Hertford's Mayor, Alan White, was installed at a private ceremony at the Castle in May.

The former deputy Mayor was born in 1943, is married to Ms.Myra Campbell and has two children, Harriet and William, both of whom are grown up and living away from home.

He entered the library service from school, first with the Borough of Deptford Public Libraries and then with the London Borough of Richmond-upon-Thames. Since 1970 be has been with the Hertfordshire Library Service. He was a librarin at Hertford from 1981 until early retirement in December 1996.

He is also a govenor of Wheatcroft School, a member of the managment committee of Hertford Citizen's Advice Burea, Chairman of the Friends of Hertford Museum and a member of the Kingsmead Community Association.

The role of Mayor is principally a symbolic one, with the post being held for 12 months and elected by the full town council.
