Thanks for that Andrew.

So (HFE->LST):
Old single fare: £10.10 peak , £9.90 off-peak
Oyster peak single fare: £7.60 peak, £5.50 off-peak

Old return fare £15.70 peak, £11.60 off peak
Oyster peak return fare (2x single): £15.20 peak, £11 off-peak

I think...

You might what to Recheck your prices there! Any time peak/ daily cap on Oyster is £24.30 whereas the paper ticket is £22.50. I believe a peak return to LST is 2x the single ticket so in the peak this £9.30 x2 = £18.60 compared to a paper Peak return of £15.70? The Subday times recently published an article about it and specially mentioned the Hertford East Line and the fact Oyster is ripping people off!

(It's a bit like the old Tottenham Hale trick, tap out, then tap in out in and save £1.40)!

Peak single to Liverpool Street is £7.60.

Just checked my Oyster journey history and get the 7.27 from HFE in the morning and the 17.11 from LST in the evening - both peak trains and both charged at £7.60 each = £15.20 total for the day

That is interesting I think the £9.30 rate includes to anywhere in Zone 1, therefore costing more for a return trip to Z1. There is no reference to the fair your staying on the TfL Fares listings, although it doesn't surprise me that they have not included all fairs! In theory it's meant to be £9.30 flat rate fair to anywhere from Broxbourne and beyond into z1-8!

The £7.60 fair is off peak, so it depends and what time you tap in, to get this fair, e.g before 6:30am and after 9:30am, unless there is some strange peak times which j can't see any mention of anywhere!

TfL fairs including the Hertford East branch;

I've used my contactless card for about a month and the fares are coming out consistently cheaper; I work all over London and sometimes do multiple site visits but its certainly cheaper than travelcards - weekday return into Zone 1 (single destination Holborn & Warren St recently) is coming up at £14.50 leaving on the 07.57 and returning mid afternoon.
