Just saw the lovely shop sign (really classy) for the new bottle store in Parliament Square.
Way it's going the bottle stores will be overtaking hairdressers and nail bars!

I've not seen the sign yet but as it's a conservation area they would probably need planning permission, which I suspect they don't have.

Reality check here - Blockbusters was hardly subtle!! Surely it can't be much worse than their frontage and big yellow bins left outside.

Apparently the council have already received complaints (yes, plural).

Herford Food & Wine in The Wash had a similar issue when they put up their first unauthorised sign. They eventually had to take the sign down and put in a planning application for something more in keeping after they had a visit from the council's enforcement officer.

The sign may be one issue but another might be what they've done with the windows, effectively using them as a billboard.

What permissions if any do they need and have they applied for them.

They need planning permission for the signage. There is no planning application for this address.

Well I for one look am looking forward with anticipation to this new venture evidently aimed at the sizable number of wine lovers in this town. Since Oddbins went downhill those of us who enjoy the glory of the grape have been forced to look further afield to, say, The Wine Society in Stevenage. As Lay & Wheeler, Berry Bros , even Majestic have failed to plug the gap in Hertford then we should celebrate this fresh vintner & look forward to the first MW tutored tasting...

Why would the council give them a license to sell booze when the grapevine and castle shop are all within a stones throw.
