Christmas recycling and side waste

Post by newgirl » Mon 30 Dec, 2013 4:21 pm

This is what I got in response to my question about whether or not they will take "overflow" recycling this week

"For the collection immediately after Christmas, crews will take side waste.

For further information please do not hesitate to contact the Environmental Services Team on 01279 655261 ext: 3507.

Kind Regards

Hope this helps

Thanks for that. Good to know my cardboard mountain will soon be gone without a trip to the dump. :)

Can anyone explain to me what "side waste" means?
Hopefully it means anything extra that doesn't fit in my new recycling bin?
I could do with resurrecting the old boxes and putting out one full of bottles, another full of paper and a third full of cardboard!

I emailed them and got the following reply:

Thank you for your e mail. Additional recycling if presented in carrier bags/old recycling boxes, separated as required will be taken on collection day.

I don't think it will be accepted in either.

They won't take wrapping paper or cards, if you put them in they will leave the whole bin so don't risk it!

cards can be recycled at some supermarkets usually, papers can't be anywhere, they advise saving it and re using it!

I think you will find that they will now take xmas cards and wrapping paper. The notice left on our bin before xmas read:

Christmas Cards & Wrapping Paper - can NOW be recycled in the new blue lidded bin! Please ensure they are placed in the bin along with cardboard and other packaging. Do not place these items in your paper box as it may result in the box not being emptied.
