Proposals for a new 20 metre high mobile phone mast in Hertingfordbury Road have been submitted to the District Council.
The plans would see a monopole tower and associated radio-equipment installed on the site close to the junction of Mimram Road.
The mast is intended to replace equipment currently installed on top of Hertford Theatre to service customers of the EE and Three networks.
Earlier proposals were for the mast to be built on land next to the Esso filling station, but opposition to the plans have led to a rethink.
Utility and infrastructure company Daclour Maclaren, who have submitted the planning application, say: "The proposed antenna and associated apparatus will provide improved capacity of 4G and 5G services in the area. This will ensure that the area has increased mobile upload and download speeds, and a more reliable mobile network connection. The requirted improvements can only be provided by the instalationb of a new mast, and existing sites were not suitable to support the required apparatus."
The EE brand is owned by BT. The network is used by Virgin, Co-Op Mobile and Asda Mobile services.
