Town & District Council Elections
Mayor Loses Seat

Conservative candidates have swept the board in all four of Hertford's wards following Thursday's elections to the District and Town Council.

Hertford's Mayor was the highest profile casualty, with former mayor Diane Desmulie also losing her seat on the Town Council.

The Town Council now has 13 Conservative councillors, 2 labour and one Liberal Democrat.

District Council

For the last four years, only two of the town's ten district councillors were from The Conservative party, with Labour making up the majority of six and the Lib Dems having two.

Former Mayor, Colin Harris, was one of those councillors losing his seat.

Elections for East Herts District Council and Hertford Town Council took place on Thursday 1st May 2003.

Elections for the two authorities take place every four years, the last being in 1999 when Hertford returned mostly labour councillors.

The candidates shown below will be standing for the four wards in Hertford. Castle and Bengeo wards will each elect three members and Kingsmead and Sele will elect two. Candidates shown in bold are currently serving councillors seeking re-election.
