Shop News
Paul has just left Fotoflash in Bircherley Green. Reason given that digital did for him. One more long standing business gone.
And does anyone know who has bought the old Tracks shop as I am getting rather fed up with Uncle Tom Cobbley's family asking me what is happening there. The usual unconfirmed rumours tell me that the same person has bought the Ware shop as well; as I understand yet another ladies clothes shop.
And .... there is activity in Pearces bakery. I understand that the Ware Road shop is going to be another bakery shop. No probs. But the Railway Street branch! Already has an A3 usage so expect another coffee shop. Several people have seen shopfitters, photographers and surveyors in situ. And expect another bar/restautant in place of the Co-Op Funeral Service. Names on a postcard please.
Just thought I'd bring you all up to date.

Haven't the estate agents been under offer for a very long time?
The Railway Street 'Pearces' is a prime location so I am not surprised.
I still see activity upstairs in 'Tracks'. What are they up to?

Wasn't Charlie Brown's taken over by Quickfit, and they already have a building on lease along Ware Road.
And wasn't there a plan by the owner to knock down the Quickfit building and build flats/houses? (
So I guess that Quickfit are waiting to see what happens at there existing place and if they need to relocate to the old Charlie Brown.

KwikFit on Ware road near Matalan may move back to Charlie Browns that years and years ago was Parkhouses a really long-established car repair garage. The site near Matalan may be converted back to flats. But again this idea has been flying around for ages. I would like to see some more of these shops start up. It seems odd that Jade wotsherface moves in pretty quick to set up her Ugley Salon and yet for over 2 years two big shops on Fore Street that were estate agents are empty.. still!!!!! I don;t want to see shops with more takeaways in them but empty they make Hertford look sad... and again jobs go.. something people forget about... Look to Hoddesdon to see what not to do to a town centre....

I would like to see a TK Maxx arive in Hertford. Such a shame that Matalans had to open instead. I would like to see some more up-market bars along Fore steet. All there is is baroosh and Elberts in Hertford. Everything else caters for the Chavs.

Tracks are still trading upstairs, I have bought stuff off them from eBay and collected it. They are moving to a unit up Caxton Hill soon and doing all sales through the internet.

I was chatting to the manager about that a few months ago.
According to him Kwik Fit are trying to get the best possible deal if the landlord wants to end their lease early.
Apparently Kwik Fit own the site in Ware and also the Charlie Brown's site although apparently the preferred option is the Charlie Brown's Site with an entrance onto Gascoyne Way.

I think I can answer that. TK Max stocks better designers than Matalan. However Matalan is better laid out than the TX Max jumble sale. Personally though neither stocks clothes that I would buy so maybe my answer is irrelevant

Victor is 100% right. I prefer TK Maxx purely because I think that although it's hit & miss as to what you'll find in there, you can dig up some right bargains. TK Maxx stuff (well, some of it anyway) is unsold stock from much bigger names, so generally of a better quality. You just have to be prepared to search for it.

I went to TK Maxx once. And I have been to jumble sales several times.
TK Maxx was a designer jumble sale. They managed to make good design and (some) quality items look sh|te by the way they crammed onto rails with a million other items.

Ok, Matalan doesn't really suit the average Hertford resident, however their sales for the size of stoor are reasonable. I would far rather a Matalan than a TK Maxx for the above reasons, plus the quality in Matalan is moving further and further away from Primark/Pea****s and many of you may be surprised at what you can find. Also I would say in an area like this a Matalan is better suited purely for the home department?
