Skate boarders appearing from nowhere have now become an accepted hazard on the approach road to Harthams' carparks. This is just a thought, but i have noticed a piece of fenced off wasteland between McMullens carpark and the recycling banks(i assume it belongs to Macs) this ground has lain idle for the last ten, fifteen odd years with just an annual spraying of weed killer applied to it, potential skateboard park or what, and at no loss to Hartham Common! As McMullens are now having a selling off land and property spree, maybe the local council could enquire about a cut price deal with them for the land, and about creating a park together. Im sure Macs would love to plough some of their Baroosh profits back in to helping the youth and community of Hertford! or maybe i just live in an ideal world!!

When we first moved on to Folly Island many, many years ago we had the naive idea that all those broken and discarded wooden pallets on that piece of waste land were being stored up for bonfire night. Wonderful idea to use it as a skateboard park but Mac's have also let the Unicorn stay boarded up for x number of years. I don't think Town Council has enough funds to finance a park themselves so any funding would have to come from District who own Hartham. Well, maybe not own it but if you want to satge an event there you have to get District approval. I always thought it was common land. There is still a lot of enthusiasm around local politicians for a skateboard park - after all it was one of their election platforms, but whilst planners and councillors who decide these matters live as far away from Hertford as is possible in this county, then getting approval is going to an uphill struggle.

I was actually refering to the waste land on the other side of the road, just been weeds on there for as long as i can remember. The kids were making a ramp up the side of it this evening when i passed by...Macs must have more land than they know what to do with, a great shame it can't be put to good use!

Know where you mean. All this area of Hartham may have something to do with plans by Hertfordshire Highways to reconstruct the roads/car parks and 'enhance' the whole area to make one big car park. When consultations were going on about the proposed reversal of traffic flow on Folly Island (actually they still are) one of the problems was Hartham Lane as Macs were not too keen on that becoming a full public right of way for cars accessing Hartham/Folly. I think Macs as well as us residents are awaiting further consultations. Unfortunately I think Macs now know exactly what to do with all that spare land - sell it! Dolphin soon to go. If they are going to concentrate just on their core business in order to pay off one half of the family then areas such as described will come in very useful as car parking space as space available in the town centre diminishes. Just a thought!

And old office filing cabinets - so much for Hartham being a protected environment which is too beautiful to house a skate board park!

I notice that Marshalls bike shop has a plan in their window for the Skate Park. Does anyone know whether this is speculative or if the go ahead has been given?
