Has anybody ever been in this pub? I've never been in - it always looks so uninviting. The sort of place where everybody stops talking when a stranger walks in. Am I wrong?

Why not pop in and find out? I haven't visited for probably over 15 years, so could not give an opinion. Pop in this lunch time for a quick pint and give us a report this afternoon.

Bengeobabes assessment would be right. Popped in a few months ago on the way the the parents (dutch Courage) They are definitely wary of 'strangers'

Dobbin and I visited this pub in October to get information for the new Hertford and Ware Real Ale guide. We found it very clean and the staff were welcoming. Couldn't face and more AK that evening so dobbin had Guinness and I (driving as usual) had a soft drink. The pub is well decorated and as a fan of greyhounds, I loved all the pictures on the walls. The food looked good too. Another very important fact - the toilets were immaculatly clean. They didn't know why we were there, but maybe they were friendly because we know the licensee through the LVA and one or two of the customers who were drinking that night also drink here.

Been in once two and a half years ago when we were looking at a house all but next door. Seemed fine, not over friendly, not unfriendly. I wouldn't be put off going again apart from the fact that I'd have to walk past several other drinking establishments to get to it.

The current tenants have been there not much over a year. There was an article in the Mercury about them moving from Sele Farm (?) and taking over the tenancy. I believe it was a managed house before that (the pub that is). That was just after we moved here.

The front bar can seem a bit League of Gentleman granted, but there is a cosy bar round the back. I am not a regular, maybe go there once or twice a month but the service and welcome has always been polite. And the food looks very nice too.

Its a good pub, depending on the day of the week. Staff are friendly, beer is reasonably priced, and it beats the only other pub on Bengeo Street - the White Lion - by a mile. Has a good darts board too.
