as anybody else notice the amount of children buying drink from the shop in bengeo street on fridays and most of the weekend they stop people to ask if they will buy for them then go to the church to drink i am concernd about this and think something should be done to stop it before one of them is hurt

to be perfectly honest if they can handle their drink its no problem, its when some little 12 year old kid gets some and gets paraletic and ends up in hospital.

Its the drinking outside on the street corner or park that gets me. If there parents and/or guardians allow them to drink at home then thats fine, but just like normal responsible adults, dont stand on the street corner in gangs and drink to excess. And 12 yr olds going to hospitals from alchohol damage i do care about.

So, some of you think it is ok for the law to be ignored and not enforced for kids buying booze. We might just as well abolish minimum ages for buying alcohol and cigarettes, and whilst we are at it reduce the age of consent, another law that is continually broken and not enforced. The Law and enforcement of it in this country is a joke.

I don't see why the age for legally drinking is set at 18 anyway. How come the legal age for driving (on private land), smoking, age of consent etc is all set at 16? If you can legally take one drug that kills you whilst lining the governments tax coffers, you should be able to legally take any of them!

Well have you seen the distrucion that was done on saturday night 11th March. In Mansfield Gardens the fence that belongs to trinity court was badly damaged by these kids. I think that its disusting that they can go around willfuly damaging property and not have to pay for it.

exactly. If all you people complaining can honestly say that you weren't drinking before 18 years of age and/or didn't try to get served before you were 18, then I find it very hard to believe. It's all part of growing up. You're an adult at 18, so why should you be denied the right to drink? The vandalism is obviously out of order, but I certainly didn't go about wrecking fences, and i'd bet the vast majority don't either.

I hope you're trying to wind people up? Because if not, you really need to open your eyes and catch up with society. Did you drink when you were under 21? Probably. Did you smoke when you were under 21? With views on current society like that, you must herald from a generation when almost everyone smoked at that age. Nobody under 50 could harbour a view like that, at least I really hope not!

I live within spitting distance of the aforementioned shop. Iwasn't here at the weekend, but this week there have been no kids outside the shop which is unusual. Maybe a visit from the boys in blue did the trick... but i won't hold my breath til after the coming weekend!

Did I drink alcohol illegally before I was 18? Yes, and I do not begrudge kids doing the same now. However, the deliberate and severe vandalism, trespass and total lack of respect for local residents is another matter and it has to stop.

If selling alcohol (or sellotape, fake chins or brass-rubbings of Castro) were all made hanging offences, the (delightful) little (though sometimes huge) bleeders would find something else to mangle themselves with. I've just got back from a nice walk around Hartham ... and witnessed the biggest pile of used beer cans I've ever seen sitting next to a group of about 15 youngeters (15-16 yrs old). The worrying thing is, that they didn't even seem inhebriated!! ... maybe they've reached saturation point after years of drinking! .. who knows?
