Tried to go into the Salisbury last night, went into the back bar.... really smokey, went into the front bar again really smokey. The litte non-smoking bar was absolutely packed out. The Salisbury is in a perfect position to introduce non smoking properly, i.e. make one of the bigger front or back bars non-smoking, I am sure their trade would go up if they did.

Was in the back bar a little earlier and it wasn't too bad but as we were leaving the air was getting heavier, more smoke filled and warm. What really amazed me and Mrs Sloop was a woman smoking at the bar which displayed very polite signs (the bar, not the customer!) - No smoking at the Bar. Why couldn't she and her two male friends sit down on three of the many empty chairs.

How appropriate - Me and Mrs Sloop go for a holiday type drink this lunchtime and there is a notice on the bar to say that as from 1 June 2006 the back bar will be non smoking. A giant leap forward for mankind.

Anyone give any advice on staying there (FA Cup Final night). Relations coming down for wedding - Pobably not need to bother if WH are playing (Mr T). Booked a Training Room once and had to move the course. Any suggestions? Room's located at the rear?

My in-laws stayed there when I got married. Seemed like it was ok. Though my Wife's friends thought the lock-ins at the Ram made that better value.

The salisbury's rooms are also very warm indeed.

Interesting re the discussion on the Hertford Club elsewhere as the back bar of the Salisbury is totally non-smoking as from today. Me and Mrs sloop celebrated this fine occassion by having a smoke free half this evening - and jolly pleasant it was too.

Used the back bar on Friday and how pleasant it was to be in a clean atmosphere. The salisbury's bars remind me of the old fashioned hotel/pub bars I knew in Wales 30 years ago full of middle aged people having a quiet drink. Then I realised I am now one of those middle aged people! The sooner smoke free becomes the norm, the better. I was in scotland for 2 weeks and the improvement in the pubs up there was wonderful, and they did not seem to lack for trade.

Just a word of warning for anyone thinking of popping into the Salisbury for Sunday Lunch this weekend. They have a sign up stating that "Due to essential electrical work" they will be closed all day this Sunday (31st October)from 6am - 6pm
