Perhaps this is coincidence.............but Loftcat Leisure Limited applied to Stevenage council to open a bar. The company name is slightly different to the Loftcat in the Hertford but the timing and names are too close to be pure coincidence..... I noticed that this shop was open for business today. Looks rather expensive e.g. a single chair at about £400 and a coffee table at around the same price.

I just wondered if anyone (or anyone know of anyone) has bought anything from Loftcat yet? ... all the stuff looks excellent, but I would probably need to visit my financial advisor before I even think about purchasing anything!

I like the furniture and for what you get I do not consider it to be expensive. However, I would never buy it as it is all made with non-renewable hardwoods.

furniture looks good (have only window browsed as I don't require a sofa or a bed). Only one thing I have noticed.......the window display has not changed at all since they opened, are they relying on sales of one kind of bed and one sofa?

I had a browse the other day and I liked some of their stuff. The shop is well laid out and I wasn’t pounced upon by the sales person. I’m uncertain how much the displays will change over time – I’m guessing not much unless stock sells and needs to be replaced. No, it’s not cheap but to be honest it’s not hugely expensive either for furniture – several hundred pounds for a large heavy wooden chair, artwork or a coffee table isn’t over priced in my opinion (although it is when compared to stack-em-high IKEA but then again your choices wont become ubiquitous in everyone’s houses [there are certain lamps and CD racks that IKEA does that must come free with a mortgage]). I think it well worth a look and it nice to have a new business moving in to Hertford that is not a copy of another business that we already have 3+ of anyway.

Well I saw someone walk through Bircherley Green today with a Loftcat carrier bag. It was not a large bag in which you could fit a double bed but I have noticed a lot of people browsing.

No, I haven’t bought anything. They have a mixed media painting I like and it’s on my (ever growing) short list for a wall I want something on. The vast majority of their stuff however is large items of furniture. They have a few bits and pieces that could be bought perhaps as a browsing impulse buy but not a huge amount. This could be why you don’t see many bags being carried as much of their stuff probably gets delivered. I suspect that since their items are usually a major piece of someone’s home furniture that sales are slower as people don’t usually rush out and buy the first bed/chair/table they see and least of all then carry it home. Personally, it is unlikely that, past me perhaps purchasing a painting, that I’ll buy anything from them – only because when I moved here 18 months ago I completely furnished the entire house from scratch and so I just don’t need new furniture.

We went in here for the first time on Saturday and had a chat with the owner. He was a really nice guy, very helpful and knowledgeable on design. Some great stock in there and I think a rather fetching ensemble will be gracing my conservatory. When I get round to building it. Hertford certainly has the affluent population to be able to support this venture, and as for people complaining that it's too expensive - when you have to import furniture from the far east on a small scale, it's obviously going to cost more than your Ikea common stuff. You have to pay a premium for unique designs.

I went in there a few weeks back. Nice stuff, but too expensive in my eyes. I don't mind paying a lot for originality, but I didn't see anything that I couldn't source elsewhere for less.

I will be purchasing the rather large grass furniture in the window once i've built my conservatory
