Got tipped off about this offer from TalkTalk http://www.talktalk.co.uk/talktalk/servlet/gben-home-Home NTL are offering deals to retain customers who are thinking of switching. I have just got off the phone to them and got 10MB (was on 2MB) internet at half price & the talk unlimited 24 phone at half price, saving me £135 off what i was paying a year.

Whether you get 10MB is another matter. They can only promise "up to" as it depends on things out of their control. Which is one reason why so many companies are upgrading free of charge.

It's also pretty easy to get them to put you on their 3/30 product and be left on the same BB speed as you were (3/30 is 1Mb BB). If they are putting you on 10Mb make sure you have your internet through a NTL250 modem or better otherwise the Modem cannot keep up.

The people you need to talk to at NTL are Retentions. They are only open 9am to 5pm. Just spoke to sales who offered me £8.50/month discount but not an upgrade to the internet. Will call tomorrow [;)]

But I am not on 3 for 30. I have 2MB broadband, Talk Unlimited 24 & Digital Base Pack. This weighs in at a hefty £60.99/month.

The addons cost the same though, you are reducing the base part of the cost. Be glad you don't have an additional set top box that weighs in at a heft £15 a month (I remember when the analogue ones were £5 a month).

FWIW With the new package that Talk Talk has launched with free Broadband for life, it's usually worthing holding on a couple of months until the other operators launch their rival packages.

I'm a (reluctant) NTL customer. All I really need is Broadband, a basic TV package and THE SPORTS CHANNELS. If it wasn't for my overwhelming addiction to sport I could get myself a much cheaper package. We hardly ever watch anything other than what is available on Freeview and we don't even use our landline. Any advice anyone?

What sports are you into? Most of them can be viewed on the internet free of charge if you know where to look.

Nice one - I phoned and told NTL I wanted to cancel my broadband as I was moving to Talk Talk - I got £20 a month knocked off the price of my 10mb connection for 6 months and a new cable modem..! The fact that NTL have put together a 'Retention team', to try and keep customers, shows how serious they are taking the Talk Talk offer!

I'm pretty sure that I've read in their blurb that you can have a BT line connected for a one off fee of £30. NTL know that all their customers have non-BT numbers so they must be worried if they are offering everyone incentives to stay.

Most NTL Customers still have their old BT Phone sockets in place, you can reconnect to BT for Free, probably right about £30 to reconnect for Talk Talk, but still worth the investment for the savings. NTL want to keep as many customers as they can.

Just to let you know I wussed out from going the whole hog and getting the 3 for £33 package but I did get a discount and I didn't have to bend the truth. Me: I'm economising and I seem to pay you a lot of money, I'm looking around at BT and TalkTalk, can you offer me something better than my current package? NTL: I'll have a look <tap tap tap on the keyboard>How about £11 off every month(ie. free TV) Me: Er...okay <puts phone down and curses himself for not pushing further> Even so £132 less a year is still worth having and they just gave it to me and I didn't even have to think or talk fancy [:)]

I'm currently on NTL. Does anybody know if you can have talk talk and sky? If memory serves, Sky insist on a BT phone line to connect the box up to.

BE AWARE!! Just got my NTL bill and it shows discounts for 3 months (10MB broadband) and 6 months (TV). Check your bills carefully each month and make sure they don't start charging full price in a few months.

After spending the last 50 mins on hold with various NTL departments, I decided to cancel my final NTL service "Broadband" because of their lack of non-existant customer service. I would like to add that unless you are a sado masochist do not sign up with NTL.

NTL are the WORST company I have ever had the misfortune of dealing with. They narrowly beat Brittania Video Club in to 2nd place and Comet into 3rd.
