ok well as the name has changed i thought i would start a fresh the same as the pub has turned a new page the world cup is upon us and it has been going down very well here at the bridge new faces and old are coming in and saying how nice thay are finding the place now of which i am glad im doing a small food selection during the england games and that is going down a treat as there was nothing left for me to eat after i have alot of outher things coming soon including a new web site for the pub watch this space for that one its gona be so cool if you have an event you would like to see at the bridge do tell me and i will see what i can do so there is a starter for ten do give me your comments i am liking the ideas i have been given so far keep them coming

How about a free laptop connection to the Internet, might draw a few customers in off the trains after work, or even keep the children happy if they bring along there laptops? just a thought. and............I forgot to say sorry! Being opposite Hertford North would be a bonus point you could advertise further a field i.e. Welwyn, Hatfield, Hitchin, Letchworth, Enfield maybe even London, if you get the right bands in you would have no problems filling the place!

Great night in the Bridgehouse watching the footie last night Jay. Great mix of people from 18 to "Last One Glen" who must be in his fifties!!! Nice spread of grub and easy access to bar. Excellent viewing facilities. Males and Females enjoying the game. Get in there Sunday all for a nice roast dinner at the Carvery on the right hand side and then footie in the Pool bar from 4. Mr Smith, Jay was very busy being an excellent host last night.

Don't worry Jay, no-one's offended. No need to apologise. It's just that some people find it hard to read words without structure. A full stop is a pause for breath and your words tumble out without any of those pauses. Anyone reading your posts has to work out where the punctuation should be. Some people find that easier than others. I appear to be one of those that find it harder. Don't be discouraged.

Not everyone can rite like what i can. And I agree with Tigger I have no problems understanding what Jayzee is saying - he isn't abusive, insulting or dismissive either. Don't knock people who are trying to put something into Hertford. There are far too few of them - I am standing back and seeing where the Food Fair is going for example.

no outside the back i have a garden it has been overgrown for years but i have brought new life to it with a bottle bar and bouncy castle and soon there is going to be a climbing frame as welli have enough room for at least 80 to 100 people outside plus there is more benchs and more more more to come

Lost count of the times I stopped in there on the way home to be the only person in their. Such a good location for a pub too, I'm really glad someone has finally managed to make it work. From a female point of view, I find the Bridge a very relaxing atmosphere to be in and don't even mind going in on my own. Jay and Ali are extremely friendly and are encouraging clientele of a similar nature. It is nice to see a young couple working hard to establish a family run environment for a family pub. This weekend, I understand, there is a barbeque running on both Saturday and Sunday, so for all you people, who like me, don't want to spend your weekends chained to the cooker, you know where to go.

so anouther week has passed and a new one is here.And new things are all happening here things are in full throttle for the jam at the bridge for august and there is going to be some outher fantastic events to but im in a bit of a mood today and i thought i would share it with you all .I had a telephone call today from a source i wont mention why is it that even if the pub is shut and there is noise by hertford north that its aimed at the pub I have a very busy train station in front of me and for some reason every time a loud mouth gets of the train and airs there views late at night its my fault please if you are one of the loud people that gets of the train at hertford north and late at night please dont be so loud as im getting the blame for this thank you

I enjoy going to the Bridgehouse, you have certainly put a lot of effort in to making the place nice, but I urge you to take a good look at the food on offer and compare prices with pubs in the town i.e. The Stonehouse.

Wow! I moved to Hertford at the end of last year and was disappointed with my closest pub, The Sele Arms. But, by the sounds of it things have turned around. I'll definitely be popping in to have a look. One thing that put me off initially was the lack of a decent outside area - I do hate trying to enjoy a drink outside and being drowned out by traffic and choked by fumes. With all the village pubs surrounding Hertford it's so easy to find a nice beer garden that any pubs without one often get overlooked by myself. But, as you say you now have a beer garden as well as the car park then I'm being drawn in. jayzee, I've tried your website to have a quick gander but the page seems to be blank - is this work in progress? Personally, being new to the area I spend a lot of time at work just checking out new places to visit - if a pub has a nice website and I can get a feel for the place without going then it will always be somewhere for me to try.

I dont think that really counted as commuter parking. A little understanding might have been nice in the circumstances, particularly as we often have a drink there. Matthew bit more info might make it more clear - was she parking in the pub car park because she had been or was about to visit the pub and was just popping into the station to visit the shop/ticket office ?. Or had she been parking there as a commuter earlier that day ??

We visited the Bridge House on Friday, the first time since jayzee took over. The interior is certainly cosier with the green/grey paintwork replaced by orange. Unfortunately a small minority of the customers, who were there some of the time we were there, were not the kind I would want to see/hear in a family friendly pub. A shame in a much improved pub

D'you know what I want for The Bridge House, folks? I want soft lighting; real fires; big, squashy sofas; good music played at a level I can talk above; Tapas-style snacks on low tables; wine by the bottle; plain flooring (V.important, that one); tasteful decor. On wintery nights when I just want to curl up and chat with my mates, there is very little choice in Hertford. The Salisbury used to be good for this, then they got rid of the sofas and most of the comfy chairs. I picture The Bridge House as a place where tired commuters of both sexes feel comfortable walking in alone, and where grown-ups can meet to talk.

My good lady had a drink in there on her own one night last week, waiting for me to come and get her. However, she left before I could get there, saying that it was really smokey, there was nobody in there other than what she perceived to be the family of whoever was working behind the bar, and that it sounded like a conversation between Chubby Brown, Bernard Manning and Gordon Ramsey, due to all the expletives being used. It's put her off ever going back, which is a shame since this boozer has got so much potential and a very large catchment area, if they could only get it right in there

to thefair I only have 3 sons of which are 9 5 and 14mths and the rest of my family are mormons and dont come to the pub and I myself dont swear that much at all so please do not refrence these things to my family unless you know it for sure it is my family as it is defermation of charicter

Tried it again. I went in there last night. It simply is the worst pub in Hertford. The Bridge House/Sele Arms needs a complete makeover, overhaul and new staff. The place was filthy, there were 8 people in there, and the woman behind the bar said that Jay had been fired?? A Berny inn would be a better replacement. Look at all that parking space.

Turn it into a TGI's, or alike, family friendly eatery/pub. Theres not really anywhere else other than Pizza Express in Hertford that that caters for young families.

the only reason this boozer has survived so long is the amount of money it makes from the car park through commuters. It would have closed down long ago if it wasnt for that. I was waiting for a friend to arrive at Hertford N and went in for an early evening pint last week. The pub has a generally dark, slightly seedy, unwelcoming feel and the atmosphere created by the drinkers was one of implied, if not actual violence. I will never go there again, but as long as they keep their punters loyal - and out of the pub that I like to frequent then the Bridge House serves a purpose.

I've given this pub plenty of stick in this thread, but went in for a quick pint last week with Mrs Thefair1973 and Little Miss TheFair2007. I don't agree that it is dark and seedy. Quiet, Yes. It all depends if you go in to the bar or lounge really. Nevermuch of an atmosphere in tehre, but as long as they rake it in from teh car park, there's never any need for the pub to do that well
