For some time now I have been looking over this site and I have come to a conclusion I seem to be a problem . In many of the posts the same conversation or bitching seems to erupt and its a shame as this site im sure is to be for the good of hertford not the moany nasty jibes that seem to be happening alot .What I dont understand is the posts I have replied to I feel I have a just comment to make what I dont feel is right is the comments on my spelling grammer or punctuation.Why does it matter so much to people about that rather then the topic itself.I see so many people on this site everyday all with a point to be viewed and mused over what I dont get is the run of jibes in it that run of topic and ridicule people like myself. I know I am not the best with a computor but I can type and I am not bad or am I[:(]

I agree that picking up on spelling can usually be annoying. I can recommend downloading the free Google toolbar, it has a spelling checker and will get most errors sorted.

I recommend ignoring it.....there are people who post on here who think they are above the rest. Just think how sad their little lifes really are!! Enjoy the forum and when someone has a dig at you......laugh!!! thats what I do!! [:D]

Really like your posts jayzee. The spelling thing is just people trying to give themselves some self-importance when they have nothing else to contribute. Keep posting! Spelling is an ability which requires little intelligence for the majority, saying something of value is far more important. I have some difficuty myself, but I have had no problem understanding your meaning, ever. I realise how upsetting and depressing it can be to be constantly ridiculed, but it's not you it shows up, but them.

I really wouldn't worry about it Jayzee. Personally, I would rather have interesting content that makes a valid point, albeit with spelling mistakes, than bland drivel that is correctly spelt

jayzee don't worry! There are some very pathetic people on here who only join a thread to point out an error in spelling - why? - I don't know - I guess they feel they are a cut above?

I'm not quite sure what has provoked the original post as Jayzee hasn't posted alot recently. I don't quite understand why he feels that there is an issue with him personally.

Possibly jayzee withdrew because of the reasons he states. Despite the support expressed here, it is hard sometimes to maintain confidence, particularly if one has had a lifetime of dismissal. I still remember being made to sit in the corner of a classroom by a teacher, crying and muttering under my breath, "Not stupid, Not lazy" as my classmates sniggered and pointed. Such experiences don't go away and colour the way you are able to respond to similar jibes in adulthood.

Hey Jazee, hang in there. The majority on this site atr fair, good people. Hurtful comments such as the ones you have received are made by insecure idiots. If they have nothing better to do I suppose they should have our sympathy for the sad lives that they lead. Jayzee, just have a good belly laugh at the funny mistakes and accept it as as part of the Forum's rich tapestry. I agree it is irritating when people pick up irrelevant smelling mistakes - especially if they never post anything else - but sometimes it's a good thing they do. I was mortified at my spelling clanger recently and desperately tried to make a joke of it, then LMFAO at Shunt's subsequent post. http://www.hertford.net/yoursay/topic.php?id=1579&whichpage=5 I would be very upset if I thought Herts Online was becoming elitist.

J - take heart from all these posts. I am a published writer as well as the town's agony aunt but I make spelling, punctuation and grammatical mistakes - as Mr Denny Pepper my English teacher used to say in no particular order sp, gr, p. All in the same sentence. I cheat - I edit the sp, gr and p before clicking the 'post new reply' button. Mr P also said that we all talk in sentences. Maybe we do but its all dotted with sp, gr and p as well. My mate Crazy World of Les Brown used to overcome his lack of command of the English language by affixing f, b and c to every phrase. Funnily enough everyone understood him perfectly - until he was introduced to female company at which he was banned from the pub for being polite.

Most of the contributors seem to have got the message, it seems. There is a big difference between funny wordplay and the inference that poor spelling is a sign of lesser ability in other ways. Some of the reasons for being a poor speller are a hereditory difference (please don't think of it as a handicap) and thus there is a case for considering it in the same way as we do skin colour, i.e. something to resist commenting on outside discussion of the topic itself.

There is no separation between grammar and punctuation for many, but not all dyslexics. Some are almost "translating" their thoughts into a different language to use the written word. I don't want to lose jayzee from this forum or deny him his say, just because it takes me little longer to add pauses and inflection to his script. It's all there.
