Horrendous traffic today at lunchtime
Anyone get stuck for age on the A10 this afternoon? insane amount of traffic... it went from the Woolpack in Cheshunt (by the mini roundabout next to the cycling shop and Geoffs menswear) all the way to the A10 exit at Turnford....insane amount of traffic, not seen it like that for ages..... I was leaving work to go back to Hertford so I didnt get caught for that long.....
Any details? hope it was nothing too bad..... saw police cars taking everyone off the A10.

Friends were telling me yesterday that the A1 southbound is shut or is going to shut for roadworks - if it's started already presumably it has knockon effects on the A10...

I heard unfortunately a pedestrian was killed further up A10. Hopefully not the case.

The A1M has currently got roadworks from J1-J2 with a 40mph limit and J7-J8 with a 50mph limit. Same number of lanes open during the day, but some nights they are being reduced to 1.

Why do roadworks all have 40MPH speed limits now?
I'm sure they used to be 50MPH.
Those roadworks on the A1(M) between J1 and 2 are a real pain.
They have even put in cameras to make sure you are delayed as much as possible.

To protect the workforce. I read an article on the dangers the highways workers are exposed to and the number of injuries and fatalities was shocking. Ever since I read that article my attitude has changed. I used to get very frustrated by long lines of leader restrictions that appear to be in place long before the actual roadworks and by the speed restrictions. I am now much more tollerant.

Last year (or it may have been 2004) 292 approx were killed or seriousley injured on the hard shoulder.
last year 34 road workers were killed as a result of being struck by vehicles on the carriageway.
I spend my days (and nights) getting people off the hardshoulder as quickly as possible because of this.
No one likes roadworks, but they are part of today's motoring. Trust me even at 40mph a 44ton LGV is the same as a missile and will reek havoc,

No problem with a 40 mph limit or even less WHEN the guys are working. At night when theres nothing but cones around and the limit is still in force is what hacks me off! [:(!]
