Quick Question for Admin?
Ewoowar has placed a thread asking whether there are any charity shops who might take in some furniture before he goes to Freecycle it.
Is there space on this website for a similar thing to Freecyle (ie: no item can be sold, simply given away) as I am sure there would be a few people who would benefit from some furniture, bikes or the odd pram that is no longer needed?
Obviously, it would only be a local thing but I reckon it would be a valuable addition to the site.
I know I was very grateful to take some 'hand-me-downs' when I moved home.

I quite like the idea. I'm not sure why. It has a personal touch which Freecycle doesn't.

What's the point in replicating Google or re-inventing the wheel?
C'mon man, don't think backward, think forward! Competition is healthy and after all, it's freeeeee!!
If anything, it brings together a bit of community spirit, which, from what I read in the papers, is not around anymore.
Once (if) Admin approves, why not start it here?

Is "Freecycle" that bit of pavement near Halfords were everyone leaves their old stuff? It seems to work quite well to me.

A gardening forum I drop into has a section called "Ebygumbay" where things are sold on a first come first negotiated basis. They also have a "Swop" section where the rule is that you can only ask for postage costs - as it's normally seeds the cost is a postage stamp. Both of which prove very useful.

I agree with competition on a commerical side, but when it's a community based thing why duplicate? no one has yet given a good reason for this from what I can see. There is a dedicated hertford freecycle group.. So it's not even like locality of this forum would be an advantage.

Ok. So has anyone got anything to offer? I've got an old repro oak display cabinet or bookcase with leaded glass doors (real lead). It's quite nice, but would suit an more tradition living room than my own.
