The Duncombe has been legendary for years for having the the most miserable service in any pub in Hertford. If you think it used to be ok, that must have been a momentary blip. It's staff are right up there with our other happy friends, the almost abusive people in Partyworld the fancy dress shop.

Justin I have to say you got what you deserved by going into the Duncombe. I've lived in Hertford for ten months and I can't say that I've ever been tempted in. I just get bad vibes whenever I walk past. The same feeling also applies to Sloppy Joes, White Hart and the Blackbirds. I'm surprised you've admitted to liking British lager especially when you sell excellent imported Lowenbrau at the Hillside. Gary

Justin Just thought you may be interested that my Grandfather used to run a wholesale greengrocers from the rear of what is now The Hillside and was the The Reineer I think. Just after he died my Dad took over and had to move premises to Ware Road.

Arthur Kronenbourg is a British lager. It is brewed by Scottish & Newcastle in Reading, Berkshire, UK . Gary

I find that most lagers brewed in the UK are rubbish. I think it's got something to do with the water. That and the fact that many are targetted at binge drinkers who care little for the taste, so long as it gets them legless! If you want a decent beer drink either real ale or bottled continental beers (and avoid faux continental beers that are "brewed in the UK under licence").
