Sorry, no Medieval Night this year. What I am working on is a two day Christmas event on December 4/5. I have booked in a Continental market for both days. On Sunday I am hoping to have brass band, christmas carols by schools and churches, and guest appearance by Father Christmas. Might even have a celebrity turning on the new Christmas lights!! Can't say much more at present - but watch this space.

This is probably for the best. Medieval Night was becoming commercialised, predictable and past it's sell-by date - not to mention the problems presented by increased H&S bureaucracy and the demands of the police. What we probably need is an imaginitive event in the Castle Grounds that doesn't require the sort of stewarding and road closures demanded by events in the town centre.

As far as I am aware Town Council are planning an event to co-incide with the town centre in December and also though unconfirmed, a sort of Medieval fest in late october/early November. This though will be totally in castle grounds. As for mulled wine - why not! Put it on my list. I am not trying to run before crawling but think sellers of such may need an occassional licence. Mill Mead school used to do this on previous Medieval Nights and made a pretty penny for the school in the bargain.

Hi Mr Ewoowar! The short answer is yes. This board is useful to guage feedback as well as judging town reaction to events, past and future. Some of it actually gets fed back into the system - whether anyone in real authority takes the slightest bit of notice of what is said here, or of me - I haven't the foggiest. But you have to try. And you all might like to know that some form of town celebration is being planned for June 2005 as it is the 25th and 10th anniversary respectively of the town twinning with Evron and Wildeshausen. Very much in initial planning stages. But expect German bands etc.

Hi John, I AM interested. I have always been interested in Hertford events. I live in the town and in the past have tried to get involved but without much success. Closed doors and commitees. Hertford has so much to offer. Look at the success of the Fun Day...........there's an appetite for more.

Hi Ewoowar The exclusivity of some of Hertford's clubs and socities is a topic of its own but ...... The Fun Day Committee and Hertford Music Festival are non-political and non aligned. I am not too sure what is happening with Fun Day in 2005 owing to the town twinning event which is very similar. Organisation in the town may well come down to Hertford Town Centre Management Board which means me! The Music Festival has just lost a few members owing to retirement and moving. This is a month long event and takes a wealth of organisation but you do see a reward for your efforts.
