Lots of shots of Hertford on Channel Four this evening in "Best and Worst Places to Live 2006". East Herts came 7th (best that is!) There's video of the East Herts part of the programme at http://www.channel4.com/4homes/ontv/best&worst/2006/best.html (you'll have to put up with an advert first)

Although I'm not sure where they found a 2-bedroom end-of-terrace house, 5 mins walk from a station, for £180k!

Interesting how at the end they even manage to make the A120 junction at Little Hadham look sweet and picturesque when we all know it is a traffic nightmare.

House was 2 bedroom in martins drive in foxholes hertford - next to flint cottage - recentl sold by oates for around 180 k!!

i suspect there's not much difference between 1st and perhaps 50th place. so being suspicious, i guess they just pick different places to keep the show/list interesting. Otherwise in reality places dont change much year on year so it'd be the same list every year! good to see south cambs 7th tho. ( i work that way! )

I think that the rankings are based soley on statistics but Hannel 4 choose to have the show presented by Kirstie and Phil in order to give the impression that if they were searching for a home for themselves or for a top notch place for someone in their Location, Location show, the best places to look would be those listed. Of course, as we all know, everywhere has it good and bad points. Even Hertford. Such as Sele Farm, eh Steve?

I too sat through this tissue of lies, How come all the best were more or less in the South East and then surprise surprise number one Edinbugh, it should be good place to live! we in the South 'support' them through our hard earned taxes, I gather they have so much of OUR money they do not know what to do with most of it - thank you Mr Brown!!! for nothing!

I lived in Hertford my whole life until 8 years ago, I'd love to move back but it's just sooooo expensive now! I can't believe how much the house prices have rocketed!
