My wife`s bicycle has been stolen from outside Tesco`s today, I am appealing for members help in it`s whereabouts, it is a ladies grey/purple colour Raleigh, with a rack on the back and has 1 black pannier, back wheel has a rusty wheel rim and it is also has a security code sticker on the lower frame. Got a possible feeling it may be dumped somewhere in the Hartham area, please keep a lookout Thank-you, any help most grateful.

I had information that at least two bikes had been taken from the Tesco's area this afternoon and rang 999 - the suspects (who had earlier been at Hertford East with 2 diffrent bikes) were waiting for a London train that was leaving within 10 minutes or less. Don't know the outcome - waiting for a call but i do have a log number. I think you have my mobbile number so give me a bell, or through my profile.

I have now reported this to the Police following your information, was not going to bother as the bike is hardly worth anything but I hope this makes the public aware of the situation, there has been a lot of bike thefts reported in recent weeks in Hertford. My wife reported this to Tesco`s staff they said that they could not do anything because the cameras were not working.

Just came back from Cannons and a friend of mine just had his bike stolen from outside there. There is clearly something of an epidemic!

Just had a conversation with a friend who believes that there is a 'crew' of baseball-capped gentlemen who drive around in a car and a van who are stealing these bikes. A female work colleague was looking out of her window and reported a theft from Ware Library Car Park on Tuesday after seeing an older man with a baseball cap on, get out of a car, and after exchanging cash, ride towards the river. He even took the baseball cap off and put it in his pocket.

My little brother had his BMX stolen from outside Tesco about a year ago (he was 14 at the time), it turned out that a boy from his year at school was the culprit (they didn't know each other) and my Dad actually went round to confront the parents! The police didn't seem that interested in either the crime or recovering the bike so we had to do it our selves.

We have been given details of 2 suspects that have been seen several times in the Hertford East area, cannot reveal anymore due to the sensitivity of the investigation, the Police have been aware of the increased number of bicycle thefts in Hertford. I also remember reading something about it in the Mercury, but you never think it will happen to you, do you? It was not worth stealing, an old bike. If you have a bicycle locked in the town be very careful.

We saw two strange characters in the car park of the doctors surgery on the corner of Ware Road and Raynham street. 30 year olds, white with shaved heads wearing black bomber type jackets (I think). They were drinking cans of beer and eating a French stick, looks like they had just bought them from Tesco’s. It was about 9.45pm. There was someing odd about it, not like kids hanging about. I phoned the police switch board number.

There seems to be a lot of this going on at the moment. In Hertford and especially around Hertford North Station and Lower Bengeo. 4 friends have all reported bikes stolen recently. One from the railings outside Hertford North and 3 in Wellington St. There must be someone going round and targeting bikes chained outside to fences and railings. No police feedback on any of these occasions just a victim support leaflet. However, nice to see traffic wardens out on Nelson St this morning.[}:)]

Whilst walking down from St. Leonards Church towards Hartham, I noticed an abandoned pedal cycle down the steep embankment on the left. I contact Hertford Police station. It seems that Pc Martin Swift who was the local officer has moved on and has not yet been replaced. However, I met up with a PCSO who told me that the Property Officer at Hertford had said that Police no longer take "found" pedal cycles, but that it would be passed to the council to collect the bike. If not claimed within 28 days I could lay claim to it. I do not want it. However, if you have had a black "mountain" bike type of cycle stolen recently it might be worth contacting Hertford Police, (the PCSO who I only know as "Andy" has details) or possibly the council

Today while waiting for a bus outside Tesco's something caught My eye in the bush's, on further investigation I found lots of bicycle locks that were cleanly cut through by something, I counted 4 locks all of which had been cut through and thrown in there. I only searched for a couple of minutes, I am sure if I had of spent longer looking through the bush's I would have found more including my wifes's lock. Have these thieves been caught yet?
