Two weeks of chaos

Yet another letter, this time from HCC, Stansted Road by the triangle is going to be CLOSED from Monday 13th Nov for nearly 2 weeks for drainage work. Diversion is via Ware Road / London Road / A414 Any chance they could have done it during the summer holidays ????

Wow, does that mean that some of the parents will have to walk their children to school instead of parking on the yellow lines outside of the police station.

The objection to road works, I find very strange. In some threads there are complaints of lack of action to combat flooding and yet here, people are bleating because work is being done on drainage. We had this with Bengeo Street. Somebody actually thought they should have their council tax reduced for nuisance because they were replacing the pot-holed road surface outside their property with nice fresh tarmac! As for school holiday working, what should we do? Employ thousands more road gangs to sit around all year, so that they can be ready to leap into action and repair every road in the UK during only 13 weeks? Does anybody really think that these road workers were sitting around all through school holidays and just waiting for the opportunity to inconvenience you now? (P.S. Yes, I am fully aware that I can't spell)

Easy tiger..........I have no objection to roadworks in the slightest, in fact I spend most of my working life involved in them. My point is that the B1502 is a main route into Hertford for a large number of people. It's not just the local people it affects, but people that have no choice but to drive into Hertford for work etc. This development hasn't just sprung up overnight so there should be no reason why it couldn't have been planned into the summer holidays or failing that half term (which was 10 days) or postpone it until the christmas break. This traffic now will have to use the A414 which will then back onto Rush Green roundabout before backing onto the A10 at both off slips.

But the parents who do the school run and park in Stanstead Road seem to park wherever they feel the can abandon their car. But it seems as though distance is no object to add to this problem. I know of one parent who lives on the Foxholes estate who drives their children to school - Wheatcroft. The way they justify the use of the car - and I have seen this - is to drive to the A10 roundabout then back down to the school. But looking at some of the vehicles used in the school run, I see several 'Chelsea Tractors' and in the case of this particular school I can see the justification of these vehicles - it at the BOTTOM of a hill. Yet trying to leave Foxholes in the morning is a nightmare, as you can't see round all the parked vehicles until half of your car is on the main road. I'm strangely looking forward to the roadworks, as I'll be able to escape from Foxholes in safety

Mad Mick. Do you work for the council? The reason I ask is that you seem to have a glorious anti-reactionary, hellfire & brimstone response to peoples complaints about local work and developments. You obviously embrace progress in all it's forms..... I ain't complaining - I think your vituperating is fabulous.

Herbert, I wish i did work for the council, the only problem with that would be, no-one would live in hertford any more, because i would try every hair brained scheme anybody ever suggested including free hallucinagenic drugs for the over 40's so that everything looks as good to them as it does to me!

Maybe I'll Stand, what is it we are talking about here?? Oh yeah, the road thing! My point is steve, that clearly things need doing, but as Mr Shunt points out we cant employ the manpower to only do them when there are no school kids to get in the way of proceedings. You cant pplease all the people all the time, but some of the people some of the time would be nice....OK maybe i'll sit!

Madness - I would lurve you to work for County, especially where I'm located as I'm sure your laid-back, yet menacing persona, combined with the ability to instill the fear of the almighty into certain elements would be so very useful. Combine this with our mutual taste for the obscure and we could be a winning team. [:0]

No it's not a joke, it's because HCC don't stop and think about the result of their actions. This will be compounded tonight as the M25 is closed between J23 and J26 due to a lorry crossing the central reservation.......

The road is still shut, the journey from Foxholes Avenue, around Rush Green roundabout and back down the A414 to Hertford TC is taking approximately an hour in the mornings. Another 4 days apparently of this complete madness. [:(!] (and before you all tell me to walk, I need my car for work visits!) I wonder if that time frame ends up being a reality....... Oh, and then we have traffic lights - whooopedy-do!

But somebody will only protest about it, won't they? What gets me is how the A414 Gascoyne Way backs up from the roundabout by London Road in the morning rush hour and again in the evening rush hour. How does this happen when all the cars went into Hertford in the morning?

How does one temporary road closure, however inconvenient it may be at the time, prove the need for a bypass?

Reply ID 31073

55 minutes to get out of Mead lane last night. Its getting worse by the day. This gives us a glimse of the not so distant future without a bypass, when more cars are on the road.

Why does Hertford need a bypass - the A414 provides all the proof needed. Gascoyne Way in the morning rush hour can back up from the roundabout at London Road to the Hertingfordbury roundabout and again in the evening. The way in from Waterford can back up from the town centre all the way to the North Road Cemetary. Andrew is right - one road closure does not warrant a bypass, but general everyday traffic does. As to the Gallows Hill closure, the sign at the junction with Ware Road now states that the road will be closed for 4 weeks

There is of course a bus route from near London Road to the bottom of the hill near Presdales - perhaps if less parents felt the need to drive their children to school, then the traffic wouldn't be so bad. [}:)]

A bus route my daughter takes most days - except said bus is often getting into Presdales late because of the current traffic chaos. Or maybe I should just let an 11 yr old walk up the dual carriageway? [:(!]

I've just had a walk past, and from my experience I would say that the carriage way will be finished within 2 days. All the kerbs and frames are in place so is needs a bit of top coat and job done. Whether the road will be open or not is another question.

Most bus routes to Ware and beyond have some kind of delay, due to getting caught in traffic when trying to get into Hertford. I counted 6 buses in the jam between Tesco's and the police station the other day. I agree to driving kids to school if the school is not in walking distance or on a bus route. You try getting 2 kids to school in Hertford Heath without driving

I really wish someone would answer this as it has always puzzled me! [?]Why is it always the Eastbound (Harlow direction) side that's backed up at both ends of the day, while the Westbound (Hatfield direction) flows more freely, even though it has that single lane bottleneck under the railway bridge by the Esso garage? Is it something to do with the A119 (from Stevenage) loading in Eastbound traffic? (Please, no sneering answers inviting me to get a life. [:)] If the thread doesn't interest you, move on. Nothing to see here.)
