Anyone else get their signal via the Water Tower? having trouble with BBC 2 yesterday lots of double pictures, flickering etc and wondered if it was our set or all the work they are doing up there?

Thanks just wondered we are too close to the tower to get anything but the basic 4 sations, so CH 5 is a mystery to me............

This is similar to the Sunspot activity which affects the Short Wave reception. I listen on the 19, 25, 31, 49 and sometimes on the 75 Metre band. For any DX-ers interested Radio Netherlands provide a regular report on sunspot activity.

the reason why the tv pictures have been crap resently is because of the fog inducing tropos in the atmosphere making signals go thurther than there service aera and the tropo goes from yorkshire all the way to france and germany the reason why you can pick up radio stations that you would not get before(Great for DXers). if your getting your tv from bengeo you will suffer the most as only 80 miles away is a high power transmitter called Waltham which uses the same frequencys as the bengeo transmitter so in tropos the signal from waltham interferes with bengeo signals canceling the signals out (you will see lines going across the screen and have a unstable picture) so what they have done is the 2 transmitters have different polerizations( ether the aerial is horizontal or vertical) but even sometimes this dosent work and you will loose the picture if it gets that bad. hope its educated you

The current weather conditions mean that TV and Radio signals carry further than usual On Analogue TV this can mean that you get double images lines and problems with the sound - because another broadcast on the same frequency is interfering with the broadcast you are trying to watch. Digital TV (Freeview) just gives up if the interference is too bad.

The analogue signal is absurdly feeble where I live. So much so that when we had the aerial extension pole fitted the engineer said "It's much worse round 'ere in the Summer. Too many leaves on the trees getting in the way. Should be noticably better in the Winter". I got Sky.

the tropo has gone and signals back to normal but i have another question. why do we get london tv when we are not in london and bengeo water tower transmits london tv? London tv only covers storys in london and very rarely in hertfordshire. at least with anglia tv 40% of there storys are in hertfordshire and it the signals from there are stronger than london also the bbc did a documentry about hertfordshire and no one in herts could watch it because everyone preferes london tv. im lucky because ive got 3 aerials for each transmitter so can get all the reagions but when digital switchover happens i hope the water tower stops relaying from crystal palace and use the spare frequencies for another local tv station
