Now Rush Green petrol station has closed (along with Charvills in Ware) There seems to be a severe lack of petrol stations in the Ware and Hertford area .. So can anyone list the remaining ones and tell me if there are any other petrol stations that have a fully working 'air' supply ? (as the over-busy Esso Garage air supply is not working) ...

The provision of free air should be written into a licence to sell fuel, as it is a safety item. If outlets were forced to close if the air line was not functional, they'd soon repair them!

It was about a year ago, but Walters Garage still had a free air hose.

Maybe now's the time to invest in a footpump?[:)] They are pretty cheap and useful to have anyway - I'm sure Halfords in town will sell them...

There's a garage just off the A120 at Puckeridge - turn right off the A10 onto the A120 then (I think) first left, it's on your right-hand side. It's old-school and not self-service, although prices are not bad if I remember correctly. Failing that there's always Tesco Hatfield if you can brave the car-park and roundabout (I rarely brave either) or the BP at Buntingford - a little out of the way unless it happens to be on your route to work (no free air either - you get 2 minutes for twenty pence, which is just about enough if you remember to take off all your dust-caps before putting your coin in!)

Tesco at Hatfield hasn't got an airline currently, Total Garage in Widbury hill did, Total Garage at Colney Heath has and Shell Chiswell Green has 2 ( I think) as well as very cheap fuel

I have a pump (its a cycle floor pump)bought from argos for my bike but also pumps car tyres up, bit hard work but it works. It also has adapters for other inflatables - well worth the tenner i paid for it.

If your heading down the A10 towards London you could stop at the BP garage on the A10, but you'd have to come back on yourself to go in there as its on the north bound side of the A10.... not sure if that has air....

I've got one of those jumpstart units with compressor built in, cost about £20. No need to plug into cigarette lighter, will also jump start a car, very useful no jump leads & other car necessary!

Didn't they change the law a few years ago to say that the air lines had to reach a certain prescribed degree of accuracy? This may be why some garages no longer retain them.

Today i walked past the Esso Petrol station. Diesel only and i didn't check but last time i looked the air line was out of use.

I had to go to Hatfield on fumes after driving to Esso and discovering there was no fuel. Wasn't sure whether Hatfield or Ware was closest, but Hatfield was closer to my direction of travel at the time. Now I don't rely on Hertford having any fuel at all, to err on the side of caution, and fill up elsewhere when I'm out and about.

there's nowhere to fill up in Ware now the petrol station on the roundabout has closed.. I queued at Esso for ages this lunchtime and it appears i was lucky to get fuel. Bengeo has no petrol.

Not open yet although they do have the canopy on now, i wouldnt think it will be open till after xmas!

I don't think that the lack of fuel at Bengeo has anything to do with a shortage generally. For the past few years Bengeo Service Station has had either no unleaded or diesel at various times. I think it may be a cashflow problem for them.

I think poor old Bengeo Service Station is on borrowed time, because nobody local has used it in the past, I for one, guilty of this practice, when we next have a fuel shortage, we will all panic, just think where is the nearest station, all the ones in Hertford are closed, who can think how many we used to have? (I can think of 6.) Except on Hertingfordbury Road and Rush Green.

I like to use Bengeo whenever I can but went for diesel today and they didn't have any so went to Hertingfordbury Road and that was closed........................so hopefully Bengeo will have a delivery tomorrow, I rather think as it is a small consumer it sometimes gets left of the list!
