When I passed the farmers market at about 13:30 this afternoon it was nearly all packed away. I had been hoping to return later in the afternoon. Is such an early finish planned or was trade very good or bad, forcing an early finish?

it's only on from 9am - 1pm Ewoowar. At least that's what the leaflet I have on my fridge says

you beat me to it! I just wanted to congratulate the organisers. Very professional image, well organised, and I bought some fantastic produce! My only criticism was that I didn't know it was on and just happened to stumble upon it. A bit more publicity (even on here) would be good. But well done to all concerned.

OK, for anyone who's interested, the next farmers market (which the leaflet says is the Christmas Market) is on December 9th, again from 9am - 1pm. Oh, and very off-topic, but are you really a Babe?? [:D] I'm sure a lot of readers are interested!

Hopefully Farmers Markets in Hertford will now be held on the second Saturday of each month commencing December and going through to 2007. The customers, the producers and the town in general are happy for the market to be in Hertford. It might be a bit of an overkill to stage a weekly market but also there is kind of producers circuiot whereby they trade from most of the towns, villages around Hertfordshire each month - so many of the dates are set in stone which is why it has taken a while to get a regular Hertford market. These started off in the villages and helped to reviatlise both the venues and the rural economy so it was the towns that then saw the opportunity Farmers Markets could have in increasing footfall; which is very evident. As for times - when we staged the first couple of markets some producers had sold out by midday. Slowly they got their stock levels right. With better refridgeration facilities and by default power supplies in Market Place -which we are working on - it might be possible to extend the hours. Down to the producers really if they want to stay on.

it's a shame really that some of the stalls dont really seem that busy, but others sell out in no time. for those people who like really spicy food, I can thorougly recommend Mr Naga's Very Hot crushed chilli. It's as hot as hell!! It's about time someone wasn't afraid to put some inferno in a jar. Available from the MEAH's curry sauce stand. Also I'd like to thoroughly recommed the hog roast stand, especially for giving away amazing crackling!!

As it is becoming more regular, hopefully more people will become aware of it. Would it be possible to put a sign up in Maidenhead Street pointing down Honey Lane? Also, Waitrose have Farmer Market leaflets at their check outs; which I think is very magnanimous of them as the market could be taking away some of their trade.

Whereabout's is the market held? Just moved to Hertford with my wife and would quite like to check it out when it's next on. We use to go to farmers markets all the time and it's always nice to get fresh produce.
