Darryl, thats a hard one to answer. Everyone to their own! Personally, I would recommend... Best Food - Hillside, with a good shout to La Ciboulette. Best Ambience - Baan Thitiya Best Value - Lams The Hertford Dude Indian Award - The Tikka Cottage! The Hertford Dude Pasta Award - Ask! Special mention to Sloppy Joes. Often ignored for eating, but cheap American food done well. If you are happy to try outside of Hertford, great places include: The Chesnut - Ware 5 Horseshoes - Little Berkhamstead The Lemon Tree - Bishop Stortford Jackoby's - Ware Dino's - Ware Three Lakes - Hertford/Ware . Some interesting recommendations there Dude. I've often fancied going to Sloppy Joes because I enjoy really good (beef, not lamb) burgers, but the amount of Neds that seem to use this place puts me off. Is there a time to go when it would just have people coming for a meal ? Gary Gary

Heck! Best burgers in the vicinity are at the Plume of Feathers in Tewin. Expensive, yes. But they are awesome............and served with Jenga chips! Also..........Tikka Cottage..........faultless, no nonsense Indian food............Bishmillah.......best Indian Taje Away..............Baan Thitiya.........best Thai.............Ask Pizza Pasta.............best pseudo Italian.....................The Salisbury........Best leather chairs and largest portions of evening pub food. Oh yeah.

If you can get over to Ware try the Thai Cafe. Best Thai food to be had in the area. No drinks licence so take you own, they only charge a small amount for corkage. Oh and the last time i was there it was cash only...

And as for the best place to eat in Hertford, only one choice really.... has to be Rose's Cafe.. :-)

Tried Lussmans, the new mediterranian restaurant in Fore Street, last week - absolutely superb and highly recommended. Menu makes a change from the usual predictable selections offered by the faux-Italian chains. One warning - they serve Chicago vanilla cheesecake for dessert - bear this is mind when deciding whether to have a starter or not. I pretty much rolled home to Bengeo and was still full in the morning.

I have to say as much as I like Ask, the best restaurant for freshness of food, service and taste has to be Dino's in Ware, at the back of Tescos. Knocks spots off all Hertford has to offer and a really extensive menu...
