Subway
There's a Subway sandwich shop coming to Hertford. It will be next to Martin's Newsagent on St. Andrew street. Only a a matter of time before we get a Starbucks :(

I welcome Starbucks, its very hard to get a decent coffee in Hertford. Not sure about the garish logo/signing that comes with a Subway shop, nice first impression as people drive into the town...

I had exactly the same thought as I walked past an example of a Subway outlet in Soho last night - what a hideous cheap looking sign, it is. Can't Planning do something about things like that?
As for coffee, you are quite right. I tend to go in the GlassHouse/Green House (whatever) but can't stand the smoke for too long. Cafe Rouge is too strong and treacly and Serendipitys is too cold
Bring on a decent coffee shop (with river view, free newspapers and no smoke)

Another chain/group/multiple in Hertford!! I hope not - but blowing against the wind as Bob Dylan once said in a very non-PC sort of way.
Many groups/organisations are trying to market Hertford as the epitome of independent small shops which offer a completely different shopping experience from other towns.
So we welcome another chain with open arms and sometime in the future this board will be awash with the usual Jeremiahs complaining that Hertford is no different from anywhere else and where have all the flowers gone etc etc etc ad nauseum ad infinitum.

Oh and by the way I have never had a cold cup of coffee in Serendipity. Rather the reverse. May have waited a little bit for a hot toasted sandwich but this gives me a ideal opportunity to watch the world go by - and in my job this is an excellent excuse for a cup of hot, decent coffee.
