The more I think about it, the more I think that the Planning Department from 1960 onwards should be tried for something equivalent to War Crimes! How could they reduce town centre access to the riverside to that gap between La Ciboulette and Waitrose? Even if you manage to find the gap, you have to ignore the warehouse style brick walls behind you and the service road in front of you to enjoy the pretty view of the river. I can't believe any other "river" town would have allowed such a natural asset to be so desecrated. It could have been a lovely little area - a few flowers and benches, fresh coffee, morning paper..... The view down to it from the entrance to Bircherley Green could have been lovely. What happened? What was there before? Was there a public outcry?
