Live Departure / Arrival board
I've just been made aware of this great weblink that gives up to date and accurate information on departures and arrivals at our local train stations.
Hertford East

Makes you wonder though how National Rail Enquiries can manage to handle the hits and do this but ONE can't? [?]

It's not as accurate as you think. I wrote some software to parse that page and read it out to me whilst I brush my teeth in the morning (and I even have a CLI version somewhere), and it didn't alert me to that many cancelled rush hour trains. It seemed to be updated only a few minutes before due departure, when I was already on my way to the station.

I think the data is generated by trains passing certain points on the network - then working out the estimated time of arrival/departure.
If you look at a terminus like Hertford East/North then the train doesn't actually start being late until it hasn't left the station on time.

That makes sense to a degree, but those trains that are cancelled long before they're due to leave aren't updated until a few minutes before, when they are on the station info screens. It's a bit annoying to have walked "all" the way there, having checked it's running on time, to find it's cancelled when I arrive 8 minutes later :)
