NTL in Hertford
I've just moved to the other side of town and our flat has no aerial connected to the roof. It does however have a NTL (I think) cable feed coming in from the street. Unfortunatley I can only pick up 5 channels; BBC1, BBC2, ITV Anglia, ITV London and Channel4 through this feed. We used to have Freeview on the other side of town and I'm starting to miss the other BBC Channels and radio. Is there any legal way of picking up these channels through the feed. Sticking the aerial back on the roof isn't an option though as I can't be doing with the politics of sorting this out with the flats in the building. I'm also not keen on paying NTL £9.50 a month + telephone contract for channels I'm already paying for through my TV licence.

My problems with ntl would provide enough material for a book. When we got rid of digital the first time we were left with two, well three - one for radio - connections in the wall. I remember putting some co-axial betwen these and the TV set and getting a decent 4 channel view in the vain hope that I would still get streaming 149 channels.
When white van man came to collect the box and gubbins he mentioned that ntl are very slow at removing a live feed so you may well be able to get a picture. On the other hand try ebay for a second hand converter box.
As a PS we are back on ntl digital for a second time (pay £25 get all landline calls and 50 channels) and now get a few seconds of blackness on every channel esp BBC and the effect is like watching a very bad dubbed film.

I've just been speaking to a friend who says that a modern VCR with a hyperband tuner can pick up more free to air channels that ntl send on the feed. (More than freeview he reckons !?!?). As our video gave up the ghost 6 months ago we chucked it before the move. It probably didn't have a hyperband tuner anyway. Has anyone managed to do this, or is my mate talking rubbish?

Having just moved here I am not impressed with NTL at all. The picture flickers and the general quality of channels is poor. Not too impressed with their quality of service either...! What a moaning chap I am!

I'd be careful. Some people have had problems with NTL and freeview around here.
Moderators! Can you extend the lifespan of some threads so that the newbies can gain some knowledge of previous discussions?
