Marina Development
If you think the Ebe in North Road is an eyesore you should see what British Waterways have got planned for Hertford Marina - a four-storey ultra modern building with lots of glass opposite the sea scout hut next to the moorings.

Just how do we get the Planners to stand up and be accountable for this desecration of our town. Don't they realise that these buildings are not Lego? If we don't like the look of them, they can't be pulled down and restyled into something more in keeping with the character of the town. We are stuck with them for the rest of our lives.
Every proposed plan I see nowadays is for some characterless flat-pack, flat-roof "carbuncle" like the North Road flats. Yet - there are some really thoughtful developments and developers out there. The planners should put their collective feet down and insist on sensitive developments only. It's specified in their own development plan, for heaven's sake - haven't they read it?
Not happy at all but I feel like I am wasting my time commenting on proposals all the time.

Sadly I think planners are just trying to get "a name for themselves" by making the most hideous creation. Its like modern art, I can do "unmade bed" every morning if I wanted to.. in fact for £50k it might be worth it! but seriously, its a case of "Emperor's New Clothes" someone is being hoodwinked .. and guess who that is!

There's a piece in the Mercury this week about the proposed marina development - looks like a selection of councillors are opposing the development on the grounds that "it is simply too big, and not in keeping with the feel of the area."
They also comment on the proposed golf course (see other thread on this forum) - they are not keen on that either but won't be opposing it. Although the would rather the land remained open countryside, they would prefer to see it developed as a golf course rather than a housing estate.

As I recall this "selection of councillors" was the Planning Development Committee, who refused outline planning permission for the development.

I'm not sure the town council can award planning permission, they can only complain - which they regularly do.

It was a selection of district councillors, not town councillors, ie East Herts District Council's Planning Development Control Committee, who meet monthly to decide on planning applications. This is the same committe that turned down planning permission for 112 new homes on the former Mill Road Depot site.

Sorry, I was referring to the Mercury story about the marina. That was town councillors, but you're right to say the district ones rejected the depot plan. Incidentally the town councillors also opposed that!
