Traffic Monday 8AM
What on earth was going on - Monday 8 in the morning yet the traffic on A414 from Ware to Hertford running smooth, came down London Road no sweat etc
Answer - lights not working on the old Plough roundabout! Fantastic!

Exactly what happens on Port Hill when the Old Cross lights are not worning. I am sure the lights are put there to create traffic jams!

I'm convinced that traffic controls are largely responsible for the lack of courtesy displayed by many motorists these days, but do nothing to improve traffic flow. They seemed like a good idea at the time as a way of preventing that rare accident at a junction. Before they went in nationwide the vast majority of motorists were adequately skilled at negotiating a cross-road without incident. Now, most are distinctly out of practice and if there is nothing to tell them to stop, or take care, they just plough on, pushing in and putting everyone at risk. If you treat people like idiots, they become idiots.

Was there an accident on the A414? The traffic going down Welwyn Road (Sele School to Hertford North Station) was at a standstill at 8.15.

This morning was very odd. When I got to my sons school it was so empty I thought I had made a mistake putting my clocks forward yesterday.

Were these scheduled or emergency roadworks?
If they're scheduled, aren't they supposed to start traffic controls after 9?

The roadworks were outside the hospital yesterday as well. The crossing controlled by traffic lights outside the old rectory are not in use as a result.

i noticed this too. there's no doubt to me that this morning travelling west to east on the 414 was improved due to the lights being off!

The roadworks outside the Hospital appeared to be emergency water main repairs.

Having started this off - coming home was a mare (serves me right I suppose!)
The lights controlling access off the A414 onto the Rush Green roundabout were all to cock at 4.15ish- only letting about 4 cars through before they went back to red. So queued from Lancaster Motors all the way to Rush Green. Made a change from the other way round in the morning I suppose!
