I think it's about time that the Councils started investing in council housing for those less fortunate unable to buy houses, not everyone can afford or wants to buy! (yes, there are some people who do not wish to get into debt) I was one, that agreed with council house buying way back, but now I see that it was a bad move, it would have worked if the Councils put the money that they received from these purchases into re-investing in houses, but not like all fairy tales, no happy ending!

I know that Steve, but I just feel there is not enough purpose built housing estates, like when I was growing up, I grew up on a council estate and thoughly enjoyed my childhood with lots of friends. Steve also can you enlighten me, have the councils stopped or are considering not selling off council houses, I thought they were going to cease this practice?

Whatever happened to all the funds from the sales of council houses in the 80s?

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Right_to_Buy_Scheme "Proceeds of the sales were paid to the local authorities, but they were restricted to spending the money to reduce their debt until it was cleared, rather than being able to spend it on building more homes. The effect was to reduce the council housing stock, especially in areas where property prices were high such as London and the south-east of England."
