dutch salesman
Shops in Hertford be aware yesterday I had a Dutch Guy come in saying he had been at an exhibition and was going back to Holland that night and had a set of kitchen knives for sale at rock bottom price as he couldn't take back to Holland??
Maybe true but sounded iffy, especialy as about 6 months ago I also had a Italian Guy with similar story, They may have fell off back of lorry or may be genuine???

The Story is the oldest one in the book. 'I can't take them home with me - you can have a £200 set of knives/Mercedes Watch/Encyclopaedias for £30 - Go on do both of us a favour!. An old story but never true. Probably a good deal if you want them but don't kid yourself that they're not a little on the warm side. Caveat Emptor!

Quick slight of hand and you go home with an empty box? he then moves on to his next victim.

The oldest one in the book is surely the 'we're just laying some carpet up the road, and could just do your 10,000 sq foot, while you wait, gov, at a very reasonable price...'[:)]

I had a similar encounter with a man claiming to be from a Milan leather fashion house, who'd been attending an "exibition in Stevenage". "Scuse, my English not so good" he kept saying in an accent more reminiscent of Manuel from Faulty towers. "No problem, we'll speak Italian" I said. Luckily, this threw him completely as, apart from being able to order coffee with milk or white wine, my Italian is no better than I suspected his to be.

Had a similar experience with a chap who had been to a 'wrist-watch convention' in a moto service on the M1!
I was really tempted by a Rolex Oyster, which actually looked cheaper than the one I bought in Turkey for 7 quid!
