I've seen the plans for this and it's going to be a restaurant downstairs with function room and private dining upstairs. There will be a bar to the left of the door as you go in and the restaurant will be to the right of the door. The bar will lead out to an enclosed walled off area presumably where the smokers will gather. There was a rumour it would be a fish restaurant. I haven't heard whether this is still the case. I don't know a lot about planning, but from what I read this is outside the main bit of the town so the fact that there are already lots of restaurants there doesn't affect this property. One of my concerns is whether the sewers will cope with restaurant waste in addition to the new flats being built behind. In principle I don't object to this being turned into a restaurant as I'd rather see a thriving business there than nothing and I'm not sure whether a shop would see the location as viable.

Just thought you all might like to know plannig permission for this restaurant has gone through, although there are a lot of conditions. Thanks Jackie.. Thought it interesting that a "Councillor" in the Mercury was moaning that the town is one large eating place but then I guess he and his colleagues vote the planning permission through!!!! Its a shame we couldn't be a bit more inventive with the premises.. but if it provides some jobs and is good for the area an all that its fine by me..

It may be "an eaterie" but they would draw a different, more discerning clientelle than yet another bar will. It's not exactly another Cafe Uno. It's a shame that they've (alledgedly) been turned down.

I'm not a huge fan of Loch Fyne restaurants but I can't believe it wouldn't be a bigger asset to a town like Hertford than an insurance office

indeed. At the end of the day, if the restaurant isnt busy it'll shut, and if it is busy then obviously people like it, so therefore it's an asset to the town!
