Hertford (like anywhere else) has always had problems with under-age drinkers in some pubs, but in light of the fact that many pubs are now not serving under 21s, where exactly are the kiddidrinkers getting their drinks from? I noticed today that The Bridge House is 21+ and no children.

Just an observation but have noticed when playing pool in Shades and looking out of the window when being regularly beaten, the queue for the Blackbirds always seems to comprise of those well under the age of 21.

I popped into the Ram for a drink for the first time in two years. I found all the kids in the back of there.

I thought the Blackbirds had reversed the numbers on their minimum age limit and made it 21? I wasn't aware that they still had a creche there!

I see the Sportsman has what appear to be official notices in its window inviting comments regarding the selling of alcohol to underage drinkers. Sounds ominous.

I believe the Stonehouse is officially over 21s on a weekend and over 21s when it suits it if large groups of boys go in or if it seems to only have a couple of bar staff on and they decide you look like trouble. This has only happened to me on one occasion so i don't know what their official policy is, Certainly on Thursday nights they check all ID on the way in.

The Bridge House may only serve over 21s but that still will not stop any of the horrific goings on in there. As it was my local I gave it a go a few months back. Never again!! First night I witnessed a firework set off near to the bull terrier wandering around. Second night was called out for a fight by a VERY beefy looking woman I'd never clapped eyes on before - she later exchanged punches with another bloke who was more willing to take her on. All involved were well over 25 let alone 21 so just give me a normal pub please without age limits!

Good point Fish Wife, though during the Black Horse quiz last night the landlord did mention he had been contacted by SAGA (sorry Dobbin!)
