Activities in June
Does anyone know of any fun things for kids that are planned for June in the area?
We're arriving to visit the grandparents in Bengeo and although we like to visit the school fetes and castle fun days I wondered if there was anything else going on. Having said that, we love the fetes. Very nostalgia making. Youngest son took to sack racing (something unheard of in the States) and managed to haul in first place at the Millmead fete last year (once we'd worked out the age group Year whatever equivalent of a US 2nd grader) and oldest son had a blast smashing china with his baseball-trained throws. Lovely.
Boys totally enamoured with plastic prizes, carefully transporting
all inflatable footballs and bats back to the States.
Cross your fingers that the hedgehogs in nana's back garden show up: youngest son has never seen one and strongly believes that they are a figment of older brother's imagination.

June 10th - Vintage Bus Rally day and Fun day at the Castle. It's not often you get the chance to ride on a bus from 1950's around parts of the countryside that are not now serviced by bus routes. All the buses are lovingly restored and the fare is - FREE. All they do ask is a donation by way of a programme. one way of seeing Hertfordshire countryside at its best.
Castle open all day - the tours are always good value as is entertainment in the grounds, Not many county towns have a castle either. Robing Room has all the really fascinating stuff and at least the Mayor will be in official robes. Dungeons open for business as well!
Might have some music on in town - no promises as early days with sponsors.

June 15th-17th. Fathers' Day Weekend Beer Festival and barbeque at The Black Horse in West Street (with an extremely large garden). Hopefully the sun will be shining.

Nice to see that ONE railways are joining in the fun by scheduling repairs on the Hertford East Line for the 10th and running a replacement bus service. For those of you coming into town for the vintage bus display, be sure not to mistake the old wrecks parked outside Hertford East for the lovingly restored vintage buses Sloop is talking about!
