Could I please have some recommendations for a good optician in Hertford? For many years I have been using Boots in WGC and while I don't have a major complaint, there have been a number of issues and I feel sure I may find a better place here in Hertford.

I got to Boots in Hertford.. not had any problems... just looks a bit too clinical inside. I take Little_P to an independant opticans in Birchley Green... opposite the O2 Shop.

My Mum goes to Boots and gets on fine, I go to Stuarat Davidson on Bircherley Green and they are wonderful, very helpful and friendly, only downside is that the room for testing is upstairs so not so good for older people who have trouble with stairs which is why Mum goes to Boots!

I have used Stuart Davidson for the past 15 years, a nice quite and personal shop. The stairs are a problem! but I would recommend him

Another vote here for Stuart Davidson Hubby, children and I all use them. I think it would be hard to find anywhere better!

Hi there - I am blind as a bat and so is my mother - we both use Mr Pullum on Priory street in Hertford - been going for years. If he can put up with us he must be good!

I've used Designer Eyes for my specs found them ok, great selection of frames.. I've also used Boots Opticians for my contact lenses. I didn't really rate the middle aged male optician there but had a follow up appointment with a younger female optician and thought she was very good.

I used to use Boots but this time round went to Specsavers. They were good although don't offer the glaucoma air puff test. I became dissatisfied with Boots due to their lack of frames variety, plus I did rather take exception to one of the receptionists assuming she knew more about my eyes/skin than I do. Mr Fish also had to have a stern word with her regarding his better knowledge and understanding of his contact lens usage and requirements than she did.

Last time I was at Specsavers (2006) I got the eye puff test. They are the only opticians who have ever managed to administer that test on me, as I have a fear of it like other people fear the dentist.

I too fancied a change from Boots and went to Specsavers - very impressed and I did get the air puff test. Worked out nearly £100 cheaper than my last specs from Boots too.

A happy ending to that request. I found Stuart Davidson excellent in all respects, and the new specs arrived very quickly. Thanks again to those who helped with recommendations. [8D]
