A10 shut at Hoddesdon since 11.30 this morning, still shut now. Traffic is absolutely awful. The A414 at Holwell Lane Junction in Essendon is closed as well, near the Hatfield Road. :-(

I drove down the A10 this morning and there was a lorry whose cab had burnt out in the layby next to the northern carriageway. The road was obviously closed (no traffic) and some northbound traffic had been turned around to go back to the previous junction. I'm no traffic policeman but the road looked undamaged and I didn't see anything which would necessitate it still being shut. The only thing I can think of is that there might have been a fatality. :-( That would explain it.

Oh dear :( It's closed till at least 10pm tonight, according to the radio.... I had to drive back through Newgate Street to Hertford, I've never seen so much traffic....was mental, thankfully all heading the opposite way to where I was going.

Hour from Hatfield to Hertford. Not fun when you've been on th road for 4 & 1/2 hours to that point, however the lorry did,t look too clever (incident was on the Essendon roundabout) & I hope the driver was okay. Big crane removing stuff as I passed. Suprised the stuff (no idea what - nearest guess from cursory glance, was baby pampers - presumably unused...) hadnt been "salvaged" by the time the authorities arrived......

both accident made 2 of my scouts leaders late last night. Once stuck on A414 and tother on A10... oh the joys of travelling

Driving home this afternoon (Saturday) down the A10 from Brookfield, I noticed that there was a section on the slip road for the Hoddesdon turn off that had been re-tarmaced.

There was not a spillage on either incident - the A10 was a lorry fire - no one injured and the A414 was un overturned lorry where no one was injured

There is a car on its roof on the Holwell roundabout. When are they going to install calming measures on that roundabout?

I agree with Ewoowar. Some drivers approach this roundabout (going towards Hatfield) at too fast a speed, which is what I suspect has happened with the overturned vehicles, but another big problem is drivers coming from the Hatfield direction failing to indicate when they are heading for Holwell Lane, rather than staying on the A414. I was shunted here from behind a couple of months ago, because some tw*t couldn't be bothered to flick his indicator switch and another was travelling too fast behind me and hadn't noticed I had stopped until it was too late.

It is difficult to imagine what kind of traffic calming would be appropriate there - another problem is the fact that it is downhill and with a slight bend, which in itself means that you don't see the roundabout until you are quite close anyway. Maybe the yellow stripes should be the first step - at least they give a fairly obvious visual warning of the approaching hazard.

A414 shut at Hatfield this afternoon, long delays on A1(m) roundabout ending a lovely family day at Willows Farm in the pouring rain. heard on the radio it was a police 'incident', any clues?
