a cyclist riding down St Andrew Street with one hand on the handlebars and talking on his mobile phone with the other ..................

Probably not, it does not have an engine.................no helmet either but i know that is not a legal requirement.

Seen in Ware Road this pm. Guy riding one of those quad bikes. No crash helmet (not a legal requirement, but a sensible one), wearing tee-shirt and I believe shorts. I wonder if he has ever seen the results of an RTA where someone has skidded along the tarmac on their skin?

Obviously not, or taken note of the high profile accidenets of Rick mayall and Ozzy Osbourne on similar machines............

As a motorcyclist of some years, I have considered the effect of safetywear and have concluded that at low speeds and around town, the risk is about the same as riding a push bike if on a two wheeled machine. Quads, however, have safety issues all of their own, connected with the design, weight and distribution of that weight. You wouldn't find me on one, even in a full suit of kevlar armour! My worry is that they will lead to even more bias anti-motorcycle legislation. They are not a motorcycle, but a car. Beats me how they get type approval.
