Good to know, as a friend of mine recently had their tire ripped off the rim driving into a pothole, i will pass the information onto him. Question is how long will it take to repair the hole though?

I drove over it too, and my wheel made a loud clunk. I am hoping that it has not been damaged. It appeared as a sinking pothole, some tarmac has been shoved over it now hopefully until it is repaired properly. It is more towards the middle of the lane as you go up the hill, round the bend and it starts to level off. If that is any help.

To be fair , the council have made a quick repair overnight - Have taken car to Mercs and have ben given clean bill of health , so it looks like I got away with it !!!

Hi Does anyone know what's happening re: the dreaded pothole? It's been cordoned off and there are traffic lights there but Herts Highways (or whoever) don't seem to have done *ANYTHING* to resolve the problem. This has now been going on for days and one wonders whether there are more serious problems with the road and they're just trying to stop things from getting past the point of no return and then being forced to close off the entire road... You can't do roadworks or lay surfaces in heavy rain, hence the usual summer season of roadworks and cones is well behind schedule.

I *did* see what looked like a Herts Highways van sitting by the hole on Sunday just gone but in the week, they really don't seem to be doing anything with it. What gives...???

The traffic lights were stuck on red in both directions for a large part of this evening. There were some moments of traffic confusion, followed by the prompt arrival of Motorway Maintenance men waving their yellow hi-visibility jackets to wave traffic through in an orderly fashion. I am not sure if the traffic light problem has yet been fixed, and certainly have no idea about the state of the drain - I'm just getting accustomed to having traffic lights at the top of Stansted Road now!

Is the end in sight for the great Stanstead Road pothole after just a mere 2 months? After the "small" pothole appeared it was patched fairly quickly, it quickly sank again and was then excavated to its current huge dimensions. Over the last couple of weeks they seem to be filling the hole with concrete. Not seen that done before. Hope it works.

I see from The Mercury that completion of the work to repair this hole has an estimated date of XXX. Maybe the Sub-Editor was having a nap when the story arrived on his desk.

jackanapes here reporting from the pot hole front line. It's almost finished! They'd almost filled the crater by Tuesday with concrete/cement and now they've put a layer of Tarmac on the top. Another layer of that and it should be done. If any roadworkers try to dig in that place again they'll have a surprise trying to dig into 2 meters of solid concrete.
