Can anyone recommend a decent gym with a pool in and around Hertford? I don't want to pay the earth for membership etc and the only place I can think of is Cannons and I'm not sure about that gym. Any help would be great.

Have a look at the moneysaving gym offer via moneysupermarket, there was also a thread on here about it.Works out very cheap.Good luck !

Teddylad - Never used a Cannon's gym but can imagine it's quite expensive like a David Lloyds, Esporta etc etc. A friend of mine uses a gym near Hertford (cannot think of the name that costs about £30 a month, think it's part of a hotel. Might be Haileybury actually.

I imagine nextgeneration in hatfield would beat all those on high prices - dont know for sure though. We went once as we had a free voucher - it's an amazing place, especially with the outdoor pool. Go on a sunny day and it's like being on holiday in spain ( complete with cranes on the skyline! )

Issues with Cannons - the general maintenance is often somewhat lacking given the membership fees charged - the turnstiles are frequently broken and, even when they do work, they are far from user-friendly; towels are often grimy; the locker keys don't work particularly well; drinking fountatins and headphone sockets are often out-of-order. I could go on - perhaps I am naive to expect more for my £50+ a mont

I can think of Hartham and Haileybury which I believe offer 'casual' use. I deduce from their websites that you go for an induction and then pay around £6 - 7 each time you use it. This means you don't need to pay the monthly membership as far as I am aware, but I could be wrong. 22 yr old number one son just signed up with Pru Health and pays about £18.75 health insurance and has to pay the first three months fees at Cannons and log in at the gym about 66 times in three months and after that its free. I did ask him to scrutinise the small print but he does seem satisfied with the deal. But he is young, fit and healthy already albeit with some normal unhealthy habits that men of his age are prone to.

Mr Sloop, so he pays the 18.75 AND the cannons fee per month ?So 66 times three months, 22 times a month !.You won't be seeing much of him then .
