Is it my imagination or has the use of late night sirens for the emergency services really increased over the last year or so? We never used to hear any of them but now hear them very frequently after 10.00pm. It sounds like they are being switched on for the drive along Gascoyne Way but we all know that there are very few cars on it at that time of night so is it really necessary? Perhaps some officers have transferred up here from London where sirens are a continual background noise?

Bengeo Street gets a lot too. It may be that, with de-restricted licencing hours, the window in which emergencies are likely to occur is wider. To me it seems the increase in passing sirens co-incided with the change.

They have to put their sirens on for on the crossing on Gascoyne Way to alert people if they are crossing, day or night

I think this is a case of "cover my a*se" If an emergency vehicle has a collision with another vehicle or pedestrian when responding to an emergency call and they haven't activated the sirens, it could be held that they hadn't used reasonable steps to announce their presence. Mind you, I agree that it is very annoying

The speed they go through Bengeo Street, there's an accident waiting to happen, especially on the corner by The Yews, when cars are parked either side of the road. Getting more like NY, not I take that back I thought NY was quieter.

I believe that police vehicles may only use "blues & twos" when responding to an incident classified as "immediate" by the controller in the Force Control Room. However, I suspect that individual officers often use them when attending a lower grade response incident, ie "high" or "low". I don't know what guidelines the other emergency services have, although I suspect that the sirens start on fire appliances the minute the key is turned in the ignition.

Why can't policemen do their job without all the noise? What on earth do we pay our council tax for for goodness sake? I'd prefer a quieter society without all this noise, sirens and total stress outside my door. I mean, look at these lovely people who feel they have no future. They spend their days taking drugs, drinking and stealing.
